The best-selling Intex Excursion 5 kayak is an incredible kayak. It is the largest and most comfortable kayak in the Intex line. It is one of the best fishing kayaks to be found. The Intex Excursion 5 kayak can seat 5 adults comfortably. It comes with two 54 inch aluminum oars that collapse for easy storage. The entire kayak and all of its accessories ships at 58 pounds, making this a kayak that is easy to transport. The kayak folds up into an included duffel bag for easy carrying and storage, which is convenient. There are oar holders on the side so you can store them when not in use.
Our Intex Excursion 5 kayak review notes it inflates quickly thanks to the Intex Double Quick II Hand Pump. The hand pump works on both the upward and the downward pumping action, resulting in a kayak that inflates twice as fast with half the effort. There are three air chambers plus an auxiliary air chamber in the hull. The chambers are designed so that if one of them should get punctured, the kayak will remain buoyant. You will be able to get back to dry land and use the included patch kit to make your repairs and get back out on the water. This auxiliary air chamber gives the Intex Excursion 5 kayak extra buoyancy, making it flow over water like a swan. The Boston valves on the two main air chambers are easy to use allowing the kayak to easily deflate and be stored. There are two oar locks on each side of the kayak they are welded in place to keep them secure, you won’t risk dropping them in the lake! This kayak is great for family relaxing however if you are going with a buddy we recommend the Sea Eagle Inflatable Kayak it’s great for 2 kayakers.
The Intex Excursion 5 kayak review notes four rod mounts which should handle your fishing excursion needs. There is also a mounting area ready for you to add up to a 1.5 HP motor however motor mount kit is sold separately. The large, roomy cockpit has plenty of room for fishing tackle as well as coolers, bait containers and anything else you will need for a relaxing day of fishing with your buddies. A word of caution, the 1.5 HP maximum is truly the maximum, anything larger will cause the boat to bend due to stress. The I-beam construction is sturdy and stable, but it can only handle so much thrust before it will start to curl. If you keep the motor at or below 1.5 HP, you will have no problems and it is less work than paddling.
We note in the Intex Excursion 5 kayak review that you are not limited to just fishing in this Kayak. You can take your partner and children out on the lake or river with this kayak. It is sturdy enough to allow children to jump off of it into the water without you falling in. The center seat can be removed or folded down to allow for even more space, which we thought was a great little feature. The seats are extremely comfortable as well, the rear seat has great back support which is comfortable when using the oars move the kayak. Many people have reported using this kayak for family camping trips without any problems.
You do not have to have five people to handle the Intex Excursion 5 kayak but it is great to have the option to have that many along. You can have fun with just the two of you, if you choose. It only takes two people to paddle the Intex Excursion 5 kayak. People who have purchased this kayak have gone so far as to install a plywood floor and maybe some carpeting. While this makes for even more comfort, it does make this inflatable kayak longer to be inflated and out on the water. Those people who have made such modifications generally keep their Intex Excursion 5 kayak constantly inflated during the kayaking season. They tend to live on the water and keep the kayak moored or pulled up on the beach. However you choose to use your Intex Excursion 5 kayak, you will definitely enjoy each and every excursion. Maybe you like paddling by yourself? If so why not read our review of the Jackson cuda kayak.
